A Software Architect’s Perspective on Product and Engineering Partnership

Building great software is rarely just about making the right technical decisions. Product and Engineering need to move together, even when business priorities, technical constraints, and long-term product health pull in different directions.

In this session, a Software Architect shares real-world lessons from working at the intersection of product and engineering on complex software systems. Through practical examples, we’ll explore how to turn business needs into sound technical decisions, how to balance new features with improvements to existing systems, and what happens when Product and Engineering are not quite dancing to the same rhythm.

Rather than presenting an ideal process, this talk focuses on the messy reality: conflicting priorities, technical debt, difficult trade-offs, and decisions where there is no perfect answer. Most importantly, it looks at what Engineering can do to build a stronger partnership with Product and help teams make better decisions together.

The session is for software engineers, architects, product professionals, and technical leaders who believe that building better products starts with learning how to work better together.
