  • Data Mesh for the Cognitive City

A decade ago, we started the transition from big monolithic systems into a set of microservices organized around functional boundaries. Each microservice owns its domain data and logic. We refer to this data as operational data. The other type of data used is analytical data, which is typically used for reporting and BI, and the way we deal with analytical data today is very much centralized, either via traditional DWH or Data Lake solutions. Data Mesh is a decentralized approach to analytical data where responsibility for data exposure and access is moved from centralized data team and infrastructure to teams that are closest to the data and understand data semantics. We would like to explain the Data Mesh concept on the example of the cognitive city of the future.
